How does mold testing work?

Gemini_Generated_Image_wo7t7ywo7t7ywo7t_edited.jpg

Why are we 'unbiased'?

Mold is a serious health issue, and the industry built around it is broken. When mold removal companies test for mold, they have a built-in conflict of interest, because finding mold means a potentially huge job.

Our mission is to eliminate that conflict of interest by providing independent mold assessments so that you can make major decisions without someone else's bias.

No removal, just testing

No fear-based or high pressure sales

"Mold Detection Pros was great to work with. He didn’t try to upsell or recommend testing in areas that weren’t necessary, which I really appreciated."

Frequently Asked Questions
  • The on-site inspection and sample collection typically takes 20–45 minutes, depending on the size of the property and the areas being evaluated.

After samples are collected, they are sent to an independent laboratory for analysis. Most results are available within 36–48 hours.

Need results sooner? Rush testing may be available. Give us a call and we'll do our best to accommodate your timeline.

  • If we find mold, we'll provide you with a detailed report outlining what we found, where we found it, and what the laboratory results show. We can also give you our professional opinion on the results and what we believe the appropriate next steps are.

We do not perform mold remediation, but we know and work with several reputable remediation companies that we can recommend if remediation is needed.

Our goal is to give you clear information so you can make the right decision for your property.

  • Living in a dry climate does not automatically exclude mold from becoming an issue. In fact, just over 50% of the homes we test are positive for mold. Although dry climates do make rapid growth less likely, most mold comes from things like failed window seals/frames, failed drains in showers, sinks, toilets, etc. that go unnoticed until health symptoms begin appearing.

Some of the most common problems we see have to to with moisture getting trapped between floor coverings, inside walls, and behind bathroom showers. Even if the water source is stopped or fixed, trapped moisture will provide a perfect environment for mold to grow, sometimes for years. If you have a water source in your home you can have mold.

  • Price depends on the type of testing needed to answer the questions you have, as well as the scope. Give us a call or submit a form and we'll get you an honest and straightforward quote, no extra upsells when we arrive at the job.

  • Before a test, make sure all windows and doors are closed at least 6 hours before (you can go in and out of the house but don't let doors stay open). Turn off any air purifiers 24 hours before the test. If you are getting a mycotoxin test, do not clean or dust the home before the test.

  • Mold exposure can be associated with certain health effects, but mold testing cannot determine whether mold is the cause of your specific symptoms.

Our testing can help determine whether there is evidence of mold or elevated mold levels in your home. If you're concerned that mold may be affecting your health, we recommend discussing your symptoms and your test results with your doctor or other qualified healthcare professional.

Our job is to evaluate your home and provide you with objective information about the mold and moisture conditions we find. This can help you and your healthcare provider make a more informed decision about what to do next.

  • Home mold test kits can sometimes tell you that mold spores are present—but mold spores are common in both indoor and outdoor environments.

    The bigger questions are:

    • Is there an unusual level of mold?

    • What types of mold are present?

    • Is there evidence of a moisture problem?

    • Where is the potential source?

A professional inspection combines visual assessment and laboratory analysis to provide much more useful information than a simple petri dish sitting in a room.

If you're already concerned about a possible mold problem, professional testing can help you get clear answers instead of another test that leaves you with more questions.
